Nan Carter has decided to teach her abusive husband Kyle a lesson. With the help of her friend Simon (acting as her emotional -- and actual -- cheerleader) and a stripper named Sweetheart, she tapes Kyle to a chair and forces him to watch as they reenact scenes from their painful past. In the piece de resistance, they plan to cover the room in meat and honey so Kyle will be mauled by a bear. Through this night of emotional trials and ridiculous theatrics, Nan and Kyle are both freed from their past in this smart, dark revenge comedy.

As per the playwright, we are NOT allowed to change a character's gender. Therefore, all roles will be cast as written. The actors in this play should be able to be a believable 20s/30s, even if they are technically not in that range. Also, we'll be looking for believable Southern accents from all actors.

DIRECTOR'S NOTE: Despite the fact we are having very early auditions, we will be holding only a read-thru in October and a handful of rehearsals in November and early December. The idea is to get actors a head-start on line memorization as all four characters have a good deal of lines. A more regular rehearsal schedule will happen after 'The Man Who Came to Dinner' closes December 12. Therefore, those cast in that show are more than welcome to audition for this one.

NAN CARTER (female): Pretty and quick, like a deer. She alternates between determined and doubtful, between brave and tentative. She is the moral center of the play.

KYLE CARTER (male): A big, messy boy, like a dumb dirty dog. He is the villain of our story, but has a range that runs from being abusive to connivingly charming to remorseful.

SWEETHEART/PEACHES/SUPERKYLE (female): A wannabe Shakepearean actress who works as a part-time stripper to make ends meet. She's smart and tough and willing to do anything for a friend.

SIMON BEAUFORT (male): Pretty and strong and bitchy, like a slim cat. Nan's childhood BFF, he plays his role as her emotional cheerleader by showing up dressed in a red cheerleading outfit... a girl's cheerleading outfit.

People auditioning will be asked to perform some or all of the monologue associated with their character (see below). In addition, those auditioning for the roles of Nan, Sweetheart and Simon will be asked to perform a karaoke version of the 1987 song 'Nothing's Gonna Stop Us Now' by Starship, a version of which can be found here.
