Theatre of Dare Finally Has a Home!
Thirty years after opening its very first show in the dining room of a local restaurant, Theatre of Dare finally has a permanent place to call home. Your local community theater is now putting down roots in Kitty Hawk, at the former home of the Paparazzi Night Club and the Outer Banks Jubilee (3848 N. Croatan Way in the Kitty Hawk Plaza).
Our journey over the last 30 years has been almost Biblical, wandering the Outer Banks from that dining room at the Port O'Call Restaurant to Manteo Elementary/Middle schools to the Wanchese Community Center, the Days Inn, the COA Auditorium (until it was attacked by mold), back to the Port O' Call (then Secret Island), the Lost Colony Soundstage and the Elizabethan Gardens gazebo, to the Dare County Arts Council and Festival Park. Along the way we've had great shows and great hosts... but like any 30-year-old, it was time to find a place of our own. Or maybe a little past time.
We are now in the process of spackling, painting, installing chairs, lights and sound, signage and staging, preparing the new Theatre of Dare for its grand debut.
But this new theater won't just be about us. We're planning to make this a place where all performing arts can be shared and celebrated. Plans include musical acts, classes in performing arts, summer camps and much more.
Come see us sometime!
