Welcome To Grover's Corners: TOD Presents OUR TOWN

American Classic Opens November 13th

(Manteo, NC) – As its twenty-fifth anniversary season continues, Theatre of Dare is pleased to present Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer Prize winning play OUR TOWN. The classic American play is considered by many to be the best American play ever written.

Set in Grover’s Corners, New Hampshire, life in this small town could be anywhere in the world. It is this universality that has made the play so popular over the years. The people are people we all know, and their life lessons are ones we all face. It is a play about family, community, love and faith. At the same time Thornton Wilder was writing this play, Paul Green was writing THE LOST COLONY. Both plays depict some of the effects of the Depression and employ various theatrical devices to tell the story.

Leading us through Grover’s Corners is the Stage Manager (played by Don Bridge) who serves as our guide and storyteller for the evening. Much of the story is told through the lives of two typical families in any small town. Charles Webb (Stuart Parks II), the editor of the local newspaper, is married to Myrtle (Lisa Pfuhl). They have two children, a daughter Emily (Katelyn Rea) and a son Wally (Wally McCown). Doc Gibbs (Lance Culpepper) is the local doctor who has brought most of the citizens of the town into this world. His family includes his wife Julia (Amy Gross) and their two children, George (Jared Eng-Hong) and Rebecca (Olivia Everett).

As theatergoers we follow these two families through daily life, love and marriage, and finally to the grave. It is the love and marriage of George and Emily that becomes the heart of the play.

OUR TOWN, under the direction of Charles H. Massey with Janelle Parrish serving as Production Stage Manager, takes the stage November 13, 14, 20, & 21 at 7:30pm with Sunday matinees November 15 & 22 at 2pm.
