Theatre of Dare Explores Santa's Naughty List with Rowdy Musical

The cast of Theatre of Dare's 'Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical' (from L-R): Kim Plyler, Jimmie Lee Brooks III, Nick Oprea, Stuart Parks II and Emily Thigpin.

KITTY HAWK -  For its annual Christmas production this year, Theatre of Dare is inviting audiences back to Armadillo Acres, North Florida’s premiere mobile living community.

But it’s not exactly something you’ll see on The Hallmark Channel.

“To be honest, it’s a little edgy,” says director Lara Parks. “But it is a lot of fun, ends with a heartwarming message, and it will put people in a festive holiday mood. What more could you ask for?”

The show is called The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical, a follow-up to The Great American Trailer Park Musical, which T.O.D. performed back in 2017.

This time, long-time residents Betty (Jimmie Lee Brooks III), Lin (Alexis Leuzzi Narron) and Pickles (Kim Plyler) must deal with the neighborhood Scrooge (Emily Thigpin) when she comes down with a sudden case of amnesia while her boyfriend Jackson Boudreux (Stuart Parks II) is away on a business trip. It takes Rufus, a redneck with a heart of
gold (Nick Oprea), and a whole lot of Christmas lights, to get the holidays back on track, complete with tinsel and keg nog.

“The rehearsal process for this show has been an absolute joy. This show is so incredibly funny and we have all been cracking each other up every night,” says Kim Plyler. “Although there is adult language & content, that doesn’t stand in the way of some great jokes and even better music!”

It’s certainly not the typical warm-and-fuzzy holiday fare. But Theatre of Dare is betting that audiences will be ready for a little holiday mischief between their overdoses of Mariah Carey and Charlie Brown.

On Thursday, December 14th, 100 percent of ticket sales will be donated to the Peace Garden Project. The Peace Garden focuses on food injustice and accessibility to fresh and healthy food for all members of the community. The holidays are often a time of need for many and Theatre of Dare couldn’t be more pleased to be pairing with an organization focused on helping those in need. ‘The Great American Trailer Park Christmas Musical’ will be performed at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 8, 9, 14, 15 and 16 with matinees Dec. 10 and 17 at 2 p.m. All performances will be at Theatre of Dare in Kitty Hawk, 3848 N. Croatan Highway. Tickets are available online at and at the door, subject to availability. This show contains adult situations and language.
