KITTY HAWK – If you’ve ever wanted to live the life of a storybook character, Theatre of Dare might just have the role for you.

The local community theater troupe will be holding auditions for The Wizard of Wonderland, its final production of the 2022-2023 season. Roles available include the Tin Man, the Mad Hatter, the Cowardly Lion and the White Rabbit, as the family-friendly show is a mashup of The Wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland. The open auditions will be held from 6-9 p.m. on Feb. 24 and 25 at T.O.D.’s Kitty Hawk theater (3848 N. Croatan Highway).

“We’re looking for some larger-than-life characters in this one,” says director Kelsey Thompson. “We want people who completely embody the personality of their roles, including how they walk, talk and laugh.”

The play, which will hit the stage in late April, unfolds when a lazy student puts off a book report and suddenly finds himself in a strange place somewhere between Oz and Wonderland. It then becomes the boy’s responsibility to unscramble the stories and steer the familiar characters to their ultimate destinations while avoiding the Wicked Witch and the Red Queen.

In addition to the play itself, the characters cast will be part of a special fantasy tea party event on April 29 at the theater.

All roles will be available at the auditions, and people interested in joining the cast can get more information and reading up on their favored character’s descriptions here. The Theatre of Dare production of The Wizard of Wonderland will be performed April 28-May 7 in Kitty Hawk.
