WOODLAND TEA PARTY
April 29, 2023
Take a fantastical journey into the Tulgey Wood with all of your favorite Wizard of Oz and Alice and Wonderland characters. On Saturday, April 29, 2023, Theatre of Dare will transform its space into a magical forest and host TWO "Whimsical Woodland Tea Parties." These two and a half hour events will be the highlight of the Spring on the Outer Banks.
You are cordially invited by me, the Mad Hatter, and though I’m a little mad, I do host the very best tea times! Though for us, it’s always tea-time, we have decided to invite you to:
1 p.m. - A Children's "Afternoon Tea"
At one o'clock, be sure to bring the little ones for "Afternoon Tea." There, they will meet Dorothy, Alice, the Cowardly Lion, the White Rabbit, the Tin Man, the Dormouse, the Scarecrow, the Red Queen, the Wicked Witch, and of course, ME! We’ll have a lovely spread of finger sandwiches, tea cakes, cookies, cupcakes, flavored teas & waters provided by Cafe Lachine.
And be sure to come dressed in your best! And I do suggest you come as your favorite Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland character because we will hold a costume contest! The child with the best costume will receive a week's worth of free admission to one of those Theater Summer Camp session thingys. (It’s a $185 value, how nice!) Lastly, you’ll get to watch a performance of The Wizard of Wonderland. You lucky dogs, it will top off a lively afternoon of fantasy and make believe (unless you’re me, then it’s real believe).
Ticket prices: $25 kids - $35 adult
$200 table for six
I need a clean cup, let’s do another tea-time...
6 p.m. - An Adult "High Tea"
At six o'clock the same day, a more adult-ish version of fun will commence with our "High Tea." All of the same elements listed above, you know, but in a more adult mad manner. We aren’t rude so we’ll be sure to include: the character meet & greet and costume contest to beat. Sending adults to children’s camp, now that’s just silly, so the adult with the best costume will receive two tickets to our 2023 - 2024 Season. ($150 value, I may have to dress up too!)
A more elevated spread of finger sandwiches, canapes, biscuits, cookies, cupcakes, flavored teas and waters from Cafe Lachine and Abbi's Teas & Things will be provided. And, for added fun and flair we'll have Sparkling Wine Bubbles for the adults to share. I’m never one to go without so a limited beer & wine menu will be available, but you’ll have to pay for that, my generosity only goes so far, you know. The evening will end perfectly with a performance by me… and well, some others too in The Wizard of Wonderland.
Ticket Prices: $35 youth - $45 adult -
$275 table for six (includes three bottles of bubbles for the table)
Please understand: Suggested age for children is 5 and above. My other guests and I will be wearing make-up and I love to make a scene so some special effects may be used to produce an eerie feeling. Also, I must tell you, peanuts and wheat will be present in the food I serve. We will do our best not to cross contaminate however, we cannot confirm 100% it will not happen.
Like all proper teas, the events will start promptly. One at 1 p.m & and one at 6 p.m., we mustn’t keep the guests waiting! Doors will open to the lobby at 12:30 p.m. & 5:30 p.m. Entry into the theater will start at 12:45 p.m. and 5:45 p.m. All tickets MUST be either printed out or screenshot to your phone. Will Call tickets will NOT be an option, this is a fancy affair, after all!
Finally, season ticket holders will not be able to use their season pass for these events, but are welcome to purchase tickets to either tea party. Season ticket holders will be able to use their passes for performances of The Wizard of Wonderland on April 28 or 30, or May 5, 6, or 7.
