Theatre Of Dare Announces Open Auditions For "You Can't Take It With You"
November 10-11-12 at COA
(Manteo, NC) – Fresh off the campy comedy of Psycho Beach Party, Theatre of Dare will be looking to “cast” a wide net when it holds open auditions for its second production of the 2014-15 season, You Can’t Take It With You. Auditions will be held in the auditorium of the College of the Albemarle’s Manteo campus on November 10, 11, and 12 at 7p.m.
The play, written by George S. Kaufman and Moss Hart, has a cast of 12 men and seven women. The family comedy won the 1937 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and is currently enjoying a very successful revival on Broadway. The story revolves around the free-spirited members of the Sycamore household as they meet the upstanding family of Alice Sycamore’s new fiancé, Tony Kirby. Hilarity and fireworks (literally) ensue. " There are many acting roles in this production," says director Gail Hutchison, "so everyone should be able to find a role they are comfortable in."
The production takes the stage January 23-February 1, but Hutchison says potential cast members shouldn’t worry about their holiday plans being interrupted by rehearsals. “We’ll be taking it slowly with plenty of time off for the holidays. That’s why we’re starting so early.”
People coming to the auditions do not need to prepare any material in advance, but will be asked to read scenes from the play.
