KITTY HAWK - History gets a hilarious makeover this summer as Theatre of Dare's StageWave Drama Camp presents American History In 60, an official America 250 event celebrating the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence. Opening August 14, this fast-paced comedy brings American history to life with humor, energy, and plenty of surprises.
 

This high-energy production takes audiences on a whirlwind journey through American history in just one unforgettable hour. Led by the delightfully pompous Professor Bartholomew T. Featherstone and his ragtag troupe of "historians," American History in 60 races through the arrival of Columbus, the Pilgrims, the Founding Fathers, the American Revolution, the Civil War, the Great Depression, and beyond. Featuring game show parodies, sports-style Revolutionary War commentary, unexpected musical moments, and nonstop laughs, the production offers a fresh, family-friendly take on the stories that shaped America.

American History in 60 is also the finale of Theatre of Dare's inaugural StageWave Drama Camp, a two-week intensive theatre program introducing students to every aspect of theatrical production. Led by veteran theatre educator and director Stacey Maxwell, founder of Porkchop Productions Children's Theatre and a Columbia College graduate with decades of experience in professional children's theatre and The Lost Colony, students are working alongside experienced theatre professionals, developing skills in acting, stage management, set construction, costumes, and sound. Rather than simply performing in the show, the students are helping build it from the ground up, giving audiences the opportunity to see the next generation of local theatre artists in action.
