Theatre of Dare to Hold 'Parking Lot Party' Fundraising Event

KITTY HAWK - With one play in the books and the next one taking the stage in
November, Theatre of Dare is setting aside the next few weeks to host a series of
events in October, the first of which will raise money to improve lighting and sound
equipment at its Kitty Hawk venue.

“Light and sound effects are a major part of any modern theatrical experience, but state-
of-the-art equipment can be expensive,” says T.O.D. Business Director Kelsey
Thompson. “So we’re hoping to raise some funds for the project with a pre-Halloween
parking lot party.”

Dubbed “Turn It On and Crank It Up”, the October 18 event will feature food, live music,
a costume contest, and craft vendors from 6-9 p.m. in the parking lot in front of the
theater. Tickets are $25, which includes admission, dinner from the Ten O’Six food
truck, and music from popular Outer Banks band The Ramble. All the funds raised from
the event will go to pay for professional lighting and sound equipment.

The parking lot event is one of three events for Theatre of Dare in October, between
performances of plays Social Security in September and Misery in November.

On October 20 at 3 p.m., the theater will be hosting an audition workshop for people
who would like some tips and tricks on trying out for community theater productions,
including how to prepare and perform during the audition process. The workshop is free
and open to the public.

Then, on October 26 from 1-4 p.m., professional local photographer Rachel Saddlemire
will be on hand with holiday photo mini-sessions for individuals and families, and will

even have Santa and Mrs. Claus available to add to the merriment. Sessions start at
just $25 and 25% of the proceeds will go toward the light and sound fundraiser.
