Emily Thigpen plays the title role in Theatre of Dare's upcoming production of 'An Inspector Calls', opening at the Black Pelican Restaraunt in Kitty Hawk on January 9.

KITTY HAWK - Theatre of Dare will launch its second annual “Dinner-and-a-Show”
production with a staging of the classic British thriller An Inspector Calls, running
January 9–11 and January 16–18 at the Black Pelican Restaurant in Kitty Hawk.

Set in an English industrial city in the early 1900s, An Inspector Calls centers on the
mysterious suicide of a young woman and the prominent family whose members may
be connected to her tragic fate. When an inspector, played by Emily Thigpen, arrives to
question the family, their polite façade quickly erodes as secrets, lies, and moral failures
are exposed.

“Though the play is set in the 1900s, the story could be straight from today’s headlines,”
said director Brandy Hayes. “Hiding behind lies, never accepting responsibility for one’s
actions, a privileged family not accepting any blame for the victim’s situation—it all
seems very relevant a century later.”

The production marks Theatre of Dare’s return to the Black Pelican’s upstairs
performance space, where the company successfully staged Now and Then last year.
The intimate venue provides a fitting backdrop for the tension and intrigue of this classic
whodunit.

“Our audiences loved the dinner-and-a-show feature at the Black Pelican last year, and
our actors really enjoyed performing there,” said Theatre of Dare’s Business Manager
Kelsey Thompson. “It’s a fantastic partnership that we hope to make into an annual
tradition.”

Tickets for the Dinner-and-a-Show experience are $60 and include soup or salad, a
choice of entrée, dessert, and a non-alcoholic beverage (alcoholic beverages available
for purchase separately). Show-only tickets are available for $20. Tickets are now
available online. A limited number of show-only tickets may be
sold at the door, subject to availability.

(Theatre of Dare’s production of “An Inspector Calls” will be performed at 7:30 p.m. on
January 9, 10, 16 and 17, with matinee performances at 2 p.m. on January 11 and 18.
Tickets are now available online. Some ‘show-only’ tickets will be available at the door on performance days, subject to availability. This production is rated PG13 for adult themes and content.)
