Comedies, Classics, Christmas, a Cabaret and the Return of Rocky: Theatre of Dare Announces Bold New Lineup for
2025-26 Season

KITTY HAWK - For Theatre of Dare’s upcoming 35th Season, the local community theater group had one idea in mind: go big or go home.
“This is probably our most ambitious season to date,” said T.O.D. Board President Evan Tillett. “We’re doing classics from Neil Simon, Stephen Sondheim and Sam Shepard, we’ve got a holiday favorite, a bold new play, another dinner and a show, a Broadway-themed cabaret, and of course, the return of Rocky Horror!”
Indeed, in terms of number of shows, the 2025-26 season will be a record-setter. On top of the summer debuts of The Laramie Project and The Shark is Broken, Theatre of Dare is adding six mainstage productions, an off-site mystery, and the aforementioned Broadway show tune showcase.
“Ten shows. We’ll definitely be keeping busy here,” laughed Business Manager Kelsey Thompson.
The lineup, beginning in September, is as follows:
-
Last of the Red Hot Lovers - (September 12-21) A hilarious comedy from America's favorite comic playwright Neil Simon, this play tells the story of middle-aged and married Barney Cashman, who sets up three seductions, seeking to join the sexual revolution before it's too late.
-
The Rocky Horror Show – (October 31-November 9) He’s back, just in time for Halloween! In this cult classic, sweethearts Brad and Janet, stuck with a flat tire in a storm, discover the eerie mansion of Frank-N-Furter, that sweet transvestite from transexual Transylvania.
-
The Best Christmas Pageant Ever – (December 12-21) In this hilarious holiday family-friendly favorite, a couple struggling to put on a church Christmas pageant is faced with casting the Herdman kids, probably the most inventively awful kids in history.
-
Broadway By The Beach – (January 3) A one-night extravaganza of Outer Banks talent, performing songs and dances from your favorite Broadway musicals. This will be Theatre of Dare’s annual fundraiser, as the group hopes to purchase better signage for the theater’s exterior.
-
An Inspector Calls - (January 9-18) This season’s dinner-and-a-show offering is an intense thriller in which an inspector visits an engagement party in the British countryside to question the guests about the recent suicide of a young woman.
-
Into The Woods – (February 13-22) A beautiful Sondheim musical that takes all your favorite storybook characters and brings them together for a timeless, yet relevant piece, and a rare modern classic.
-
True West – (March 27-April 5) Sam Shepard’s masterpiece of the American theater explores the volatile relationship between two adult brothers as they navigate their contrasting lifestyles while staying in their mother’s house.
-
8 Minutes Left – (May 8-17) The world is coming to an end at 4:44 p.m. today. What would you do if you had eight minutes left? This play follows the residents of Charlesville, NJ, as they navigate their final moments on this Earth.
Season tickets for the jam-packed season are now on sale on the Theatre of Dare website, with plans starting at $100 for five mainstage offerings or $120 for all six.
