Theatre of Dare to Hold Fundraiser for New Stage Curtain

KITTY HAWK -  Theatre of Dare is making an important addition to its Kitty Hawk theater this season, and later this month, the local troupe will be holding a festive event to celebrate and pay for it.

“Working without a stage curtain made for some interesting moments last season,” TOD Business Manager Kelsey Thompson said with a laugh. “In one case, cast members had to drag a fully decorated Christmas tree on stage in the dark. In another, we had to duct tape an actor to a chair in full view of the audience.”

“Things are going to be a lot easier with a curtain.”

Workers installed the curtain on the stage this week. Now, Theatre of Dare will be holding a parking lot event to celebrate and help pay for it.

The ‘Raise the Curtain’ fundraiser will be held Oct. 20 at Kitty Hawk Plaza. The event will feature food from the Ten O’ Six food truck, music from local band The Ramble, and an artisan market with various arts and crafts for sale. A cash bar will be selling beer, wine and non-alcoholic drinks.

Tickets are $20, which includes admission and dinner from the food truck. For those in a Halloween mood, there will also be a costume contest. Some of the proceeds raised will help pay for the curtain, which cost $10,000 to purchase and install.

“It’s going to be a fun event, and the stage curtain will be a great addition to the audience experience at our shows,” said TOD Board President Stuart Parks II. “We can’t wait to show it off.”

The new curtain will be making its grand debut a week later, when The Bad Seed premieres at the theater Oct. 27.
